Technical white paper: ESXi OS Deployment Introduction This document describes how to provision a VMware ESXi host using Matrix Operating Environment infrastructure orchestration. Using a Matrix infrastructure orchestration service template, ESXi hosts can be quickly and consistently deployed.

After the above steps have been completed, move the physical server out of the IO Maintenance Server Pool into the Server Pool where it originally resided before the deletion request. Important If the host is the last remaining host in a cluster, manually erase the disk. Do not run an erase disk job when other hosts remain in the cluster, as the erase disk job will erase the shared disks, and data loss will occur.

The methodology differs from standard physical server deployment with post-installation customization for two primary reasons: 1.

From the Matrix home page, select Tools>Infrastructure Orchestration to launch the infrastructure orchestration console, and then select the Templates tab. 15. Verify that the template created earlier is displayed, that the template is Published, and that the user who will create the service is included in the list of Assigned Users.

Ensure that the deployment and management network IP addresses of the new ESXi host are correctly configured in DNS, using your usual procedures. Add the ESXi host to datacenter in vCenter Once a service console has been configured with an address on the management network, the ESXi host can be managed from the vSphere Client.

Select the ESXi host, select the Configuration tab, and then under Hardware select Networking. • For virtual switch vSwitch0, Service Console and Physical Adapter vmnic0 should be displayed. • For virtual switch vSwitch1, Service Console 2 and Physical Adapter vmnic1 should be displayed. Technical white paper: ESXi OS Deployment Add the ESXi host to cluster Once configuration of the new ESXi host is complete, the host can be added to a cluster by clicking the host in the inventory panel, dragging the host, and dropping it onto a cluster. Caution Do not run an Insight Control server deployment or Insight Control server provisioning erase job on an ESX host that is part of a cluster, to prevent erasure of the cluster datastore disks.

Technical white paper: ESXi OS Deployment To configure the ESXi host as a managed node: 1. Navigate to the HP Matrix Operating Environment (http://:280/). 2. From the Matrix home page, in Add and Manage Resources, select Add and Configure Hardware>Step 2: License and Configuration to launch the Managed System Setup Wizard. 3. Select Search, type the hostname in the text box, click Search, select the new ESXi host from the list, and then click Apply. 4. Click Next. 5.

Select the ESXi host, click >> to move the ESXi host to the Unassigned pool, and then click Save. Moving the ESXi host to the Unassigned pool ensures there are no user authorizations for the ESXi host, and prevents infrastructure orchestration from provisioning new virtual machines to the host while it is being deleted. 6. Move any virtual machines to another ESXi host.
