To define Catalog tags:
1. From the Global menu, select Catalog > Define Tags. Alternatively, click the Actions Define Tags
button.
The Define Tags dialog box appears.
2. Click Add.
The newly created, empty entry appears in blue on the next empty line of the table.
3. Click on the empty entry in the Namespace column, then enter the preferred Namespace.
A Namespace is a container for tags. The same tag value can be used in different Namespaces
and functions separately. All users can use the same Namespace, or different users can create
and use different Namespaces. Use of a Namespace is optional.
4. Click on the blue entry in the Value column, then enter the preferred tag name.
Tags within SPM are not case sensitive; however, tags within Insight Dynamics are case sensitive.
Tags to be used with Insight Dynamics must be exact matches in SPM, including the character
cases.
5. Repeat these steps for each tag to be added.
These tags are populated within the catalog and can be applied to the appropriate entities.
6. Click OK to save the new tags.
Defining SAN IDs
SAN IDs are identifiers for storage attached networks (SANs) that exist within the data center. When
an array is added to the catalog, each array port must be associated with the SAN to which it is
connected. This enables SPM to ensure the storage used to fulfill a request is on the same SAN as
needed for the requesting server.
NOTE:
SAN IDs should be named exactly the same as the corresponding SAN IDs in HP Insight Dynamics.
The Insight Dynamics SAN IDs are the fabric names defined in Virtual Connect, or in XML files for
servers without Virtual Connect.
The SAN IDs can refer to a physical SAN or to an allocated area of the SAN that is presented as a
separate SAN. For example, in some environments, policy may dictate a particular use for a subset
of ports even if all are on the same physical SAN (certain ports are used for Windows volumes versus
HP-UX volumes). SPM can enforce that policy if the ports are given appropriate SAN IDs—different
SAN IDs for the Windows ports versus the HP-UX ports, even though they are on the same physical
SAN. Thus, the SAN ID in SPM is used to specify both physical connectivity and logical usage of
ports.
SAN IDs are set up at the Catalog level, but they are applied to entities later.
