HP Storage Provisioning Manager (SPM) Version 2.0 User Guide

Table Of Contents
1. The storage administrator first configures the catalog and imports storage resources into the
catalog. See Importing storage into the storage catalog.
2. The storage architect creates storage service templates.
3. HP Matrix Operating Environment allows a consumer (e.g. a server administrator) to create
SPM storage service requests. HP Matrix OE communicates with SPM to find storage resources
that match the requirements in that request and presents that storage to the administrator for
use.
NOTE: Storage services can also be created and modified directly from the SPM user
interface.
See Managing storage catalog entities and Monitoring the storage catalog.
NOTE: In environments using SAN zoning, or requiring use of pre-presented volumes (for which
SPM does not automatically handle SAN zoning), the storage administrator must have appropriate
initiator WWNs to configure SAN zoning and LUN masking on the volumes being created. Those
initiator WWNs are made available through the HP Matrix OE lsmutil CLI utility. See the document
HP Logical Server Management Best Practices or HP Matrix Operating Environment 7.0 Logical
Server Management User Guide on http://www.hp.com/go/matrixoe/docs.
After SPM is configured, each role can be utilized as catalog conditions require. For example, it
may become necessary to consult the storage architect as storage needs change, or demand
exceeds the created volumes. Monitoring, maintenance, and creation of service requests are
ongoing. For the interactions between the three roles, see Figure 2.
