Bare Metal Disaster Recovery (DR) is a Data Protector E xpress agent tha t performs d isaster recovery
operations as automatically as possible during initial preparation and recovery. It allows you to create
bootable media which you use to recover your system c onguration, software and data following a
system or disk failure.
If you create a full backup to any removable device that supports bootable media, that media will
be bootable and c an be used for bare-metal recovery. Devices that support bootable media include
removable cartridge disk d rives, any external disk drive connected via USB or Firewire, and a ny tape
drive that supports One-Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR). If you use other backup devices, you must
create bootable media as a separate step a fter running your backup job.
Disaster Recovery (DR) o perates without the benet of the Data Protector Express catalog. When it
restores data it restores the entire contents of each m e dia provided. The media can be supplied in any
order b ut if there are incremental or differential backups on the media set along with the full backup,
objects will be restored in the order they are found on media and the results may not contain the m ost
current versions of the backed-up data.
Data Protector Express do not support the Disaster Recovery feature. If your edition does not support
Disaster Recovery, any job that attempts to use the fea ture will report that the feature is not licensed.
If you need this feature, contact your reseller to purchase an edition of Data Protector Express that
supports Disaster Recovery.
NOTE:
You will only be able to perform bare-metal recovery to the same or an nearly-identical computer.
