Local area network (LAN)
When combined with a server that has a DAS design, this solution allows servers and clients to
back up and restore over the LAN to the machine with the DAS tape library or disk array (see
Figure 4). Nowadays, this is the standard method that is employed throughout most data
centers. It allows backup devices to be shared by other servers on the network. However all
backup data must be passed over the public LAN, or a dedicated backup LAN, which can
reduce the overall performance.
