Backup of typical and small files
This section covers the local and network backup of typical and small files. For Windows NTFS
file systems with millions of small files, the first tree walk was disabled as described in the
section File System Tree Walk on page 38
. For UNIX file systems, the first tree walk was always
enabled (default) because it is less critical.
Figure 32 illustrates the effect of the first file system tree walk during the HP-UX network backup
of small files. At the beginning, the Windows server loaded the tape and waited for data from the
remote HP-UX server, which was busy with the execution of the HP-UX file system tree walk.
