Q1. How does HP SIM compare to OpsMgr 2007 and why should I use both?
A1. OpsMgr 2007 and HP SIM are complementary management tools.
HP SIM provides hardware resource life cycle management for HP servers, clients, printers, and other
standards-based devices. It combines and displays:
• in-depth health and configuration information
• group management
• version control for HP system software
• remote administration through HP Lights-Out management processors
This extensive application along with HP Essentials value-added software can also provide advanced
hardware performance, administration and vulnerability management.
Within an IT infrastructure, HP SIM and the HP Essentials Value Packs are for organizations that are
responsible for proper configuration, timely update, security, and health of hardware resources.
OpsMgr 2007 delivers comprehensive monitoring, performance management and analysis tools to
maintain Windows operating systems and application platforms. Microsoft relies on industry partners
like HP and others to provide additional hardware and software management solutions. This will
further extend OpsMgr 2007 to meet the needs of customers' enterprise environments. Implementing

A1. OpsMgr 2007 Management Packs format is different than MOM 2005. For more information

HP Management Packs for servers and storage for MOM 2000 are not supported by Microsoft.
