Glossary
This glossary defines terms used in this guide or related to this product. It is not a comprehensive
glossary of computer terms.
WEBES: Web Based Enterprise Services (WEBES) is a suite of tools that runs on the user
systems of various operating systems and hardware platforms. It is aimed at
preventing or reducing the system's down time.
SNMP: Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a widely used network
monitoring and control protocol. Data is passed from SNMP agents, which are
hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device
(hub, router, bridge, and so on) to the workstation console used to oversee the
network. The agents return information contained in an MIB (Management
Information Base), which is a data structure that defines what is obtainable from
the device and what can be controlled (turned off, on, and so on).
WMI: Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) provides an operating system
interface through which monitored systems provide information and notification.
WEBES Listener: The WEBES Listener is a Windows service that processes information from WEBES
into a OpsMgr-friendly (and Windows event log friendly) format. The WEBES
Listener communicates with WEBES through XML and needs to run on a different
system than WEBES. The HP Enterprise Storage WEBES Listener for System Center
installer installs and configures the WEBES Listener service and supporting files.
MOM 2005: MOM 2005 is an event and performance management tool for Windows Server
System. MOM 2005 improves the manageability of your infrastructure.
OpsMgr 2007: Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 enables you to monitor your
IT services and provides an end-to-end monitoring environment.
