HP StorageWorks HA-Fabric Manager Release Notes, V08.08.00 (AA-RUR6H-TE, December 2005)

Predictive opt
ics monitoring
Through HAFM, H
AFM Basic, and the CLI, users can m onitor the health of the Fibre
Channel optic
s installed in Edge Switch and Director products. Optics identied as
degraded are
agged and can be replaced during a scheduled maintenance time,
preventing an unplanned outage. This diagnostic can reduce u nplanned outages that
could have adverse effects on a fabric.
This feature allows manufacturer-dened limits for a digital diagnostic measurement to
be read from the installed optics and stored. Actual digital diagnostic measurements
are m onitored periodically on optics and compared with the stored manufacturer
measureme
nts to determine the overall health of the optics. When any of the digital
diagnost
ic measurements exceeds a threshold, an event is posted with the date/time,
port number, measurement that exceeded the threshold, and the threshold value that
was exceeded. Measurements include: temperature, voltage, current, transceiver power,
and rece
iver power .
This feature requires rmware 08.01.00 or later, and is supported on all products except
the Edge Switch 2/16, Edge Switch 2/32, and Mc DATA 4Gb SAN Switch) . Predictive
Optics Monitoring is not supported on the ber por t module (FPM) or the rst revision of
the universal port module (UPM) on the Director 2/64 or Director 2/140.
Suppor
t for this feature in HAFM for the Edge Switch and Director to display events for
ports that exceed threshold values.
Open Trunking with FMS
Open Trunking Load Balancing is now qualied in FICON environments where FICO N
ows are rerouted, without encountering out-of-order frames.
Security enhancements
The f
ollowing enhancements have been made to Security features:
Firmware 08.01.00 supports SSL connection for HAFM management sessions.
This ensures that all data transmitted between the switch and these HAFM is
secu
re and encrypted.
Support for standard syslog logging functions. You can congure a central
logging service for all log events. Each log can be congured separately for
distribution to the syslog.
Th
e SNMP interface can be congured to operate in version 3 mode, and
su
pport for authentication is provided. SNM Pv3 provides additional security for
you to authenticate any management sessions on your M-Series Fibre Channel
switches. Consider the following:
The authentication/privacy password (key) con gured for an SNMPv3 user
on a switch is not lo calized. Therefore, the authentication/privacy password
congured in the SNMP ma nagement application must be a non-localized
password in ASCII format.
