Retention Basis
Retention basis is configured in the Domain.jcml file to determine which date should be used when
calculating the retention period. The retention basis can be set to either Ingest Date or Send Date as
defined below:
Ingest Date Retention is based on the time the email was ingested into the IAP (based on the
date and time settings of the SMTP server). If the parameter is not specified, this is default
setting for the IAP.
Send Date Retention is based on the sent date of the email. Importing email older than the
retention period can result in immediate deletion.
PCC Data Management / Retention Information View
This view provides the administrator:
The ability to enable or disable retention on an IAP domain
Set retention periods on an IAP domain
Set retention periods on repositories in an IAP domain
Review statistics and logging information on retention jobs

The Statistics and Logs section of the Retention Information view displays metrics for the last session
of the nightly retention processing jobs. The statistics are displayed per SmartCell group and not per
individual SmartCell. The job reporting displays information on deleted files for Minimum and
Maximum retention periods by domain. If an item is associated with more than one repository and the
