IAP Repositories
What is a repository on the IAP? Messages stored on the IAP are associated with virtual containers
called repositories. A repository can be defined as a virtual container that stores messages and
confines user searches within documents in the IAP. Repositories define the scope of a query. The
repositories are used to manage retention and access to messages stored on the IAP. A message is
stored once on the IAP and can be associated with several repositories. The message will remain on
the IAP until the retention period of all the associated repositories has been exceeded. Each repository
the message is associated with may have a different retention period. The message will not be
permanently deleted until all the retention periods have been exceeded. There are various types of
repositories that reside on an IAP: user repositories, access only repositories, audit log repositories,
and system repositories.
Concepts of Data Management:
Retention Length of time the document or email item must be stored; used in conjunction
with an auto delete policy
Auto deletion Automatic deletion of an item once it is no longer required to be retained on
the IAP by any retention policies
Audit Repository a best practice of creating a repository for compliance activities,
discovery, legal hold, etc.; the IAP provides an Access Only type of repository to support
these activities
Legal Hold Currently implemented by the Quarantine function in the IAP; preserves and
does not allow modifications or deletions of items while in this condition
