SECURITY CENTER 2.0
TECHNICAL BRIEF
HP Print License Service
The HP Print License Service manages the number of devices IPSC is authorized to assess
and remediate. This service installs with the HP Imaging & Printing Security Center software,
and is listed as a separate program. See Figure 1.
Figure 1
The HP Print License Service is the IPSC node license manager, which tracks the purchased
node licenses and their individual assignments to devices targeted for assessment. Node
licenses are sold in stackable tiers of 50, 250, 1000 and 5000 nodes. License tiers are
provided as node locked files that are loaded into IPSC. When ordering licensing tiers, you
must provide the network adapter MAC address of the server or PC hosting the IPSC service.
Once a license tier file is installed, the HP Print License Service tracks license assignments by
device.
Figure 2 provides a snapshot of the HP Print License Manager at work. In this example, a 50
node license file was installed and 5 devices were added to IPSC. The Licenses Used field
at the bottom of the Devices window displays the usage. If device 192.168.1.104 is
deleted from the database, the number of available licenses is incremented by 1 and
licenses used decremented by 1.
Note: Individual licenses are not node locked to the device. When a device with an
assigned license is deleted from the database, that license can be reassigned to another
device.
