and copy PSPs to the Insight Control for Linux repository and deploy the PSPs to managed
systems. Systems Insight Manager uses PSPs to gather configuration data for system
management.

system to a rescue Linux-based environment containing basic management and configuration
tools.
Run SSH commands and Linux scripts on managed systems Insight Control for Linux enables
you to run a user-specified Linux command or script through SSH on one or more managed
systems.
The following features are available as Insight Control for Linux command line tools:
Parallel distributed command environment The parallel distributed shell (pdsh) enables
you to run commands across systems in parallel, eliminating the need to run commands on
individual systems serially.
Serial console access and logging The Console Management Facility (CMF) captures serial
console messages into log files and enables direct access to a managed system's console
through an interactive terminal session.
1.3 Licensing
Insight Control for Linux uses the Systems Insight Manager License Manager as its licensing
model.
When you purchase Insight Control for Linux, you receive a license entitlement package that
describes how to retrieve your Insight Control for Linux license keys. The license redemption
process generates the license keys for Insight Control for Linux and the license keys for the HP
Lights-Out 100i Advanced Pack, another product in the HP Insight Control family of core products.
The HP Lights-Out 100i Advanced Pack provides you with the use of virtual media. Using
Lights-Out 100i Advanced Pack, you can perform essential server hardware management and
system administration without physically visiting the server.
These keys enable full functionality of the product, including power management, virtual machine
management, and virtual media. Your Insight Control for Linux license key might contain one
or more licenses.
One Insight Control for Linux license is required on each server you want to manage and monitor
with Insight Control for Linux, and an iLO Advance Pack license is required to use virtual media
instead of PXE to remotely deploy a Linux OS to a managed server. For successful operation,
both keys must be applied to each managed system.
At the appropriate point in this document, you will follow a procedure to add the license keys
to Systems Insight Manager.
Obtaining a free trial license
The Free Trial button on the Insight Control for Linux product website (www.hp.com/go/ic-linux)
downloads an Insight Control for Linux ISO image for a trial evaluation period. If you register
for the trial evaluation, you receive a trial license key that enables you to test and evaluate Insight
Control for Linux for a limited time period on a limited number of managed systems.
The trial license key delivers evaluation keys for the same HP products that are included on a
purchased Insight Control for Linux product license.
