HP Insight Control for Linux 6.0 Installation Guide

3.4.2.8 Ensure at least 12 GB of disk space is available for the /hptc_cluster file system
The /hptc_cluster directory on the CMS is required by the Insight Control for Linux
monitoring software, and it is automatically created when you install Insight Control for Linux.
This directory can grow very large with various log files, and in some cases, /hptc_cluster
consumes the / (root) file system.
If you want to manage /hptc_cluster separately, create a file system and mount it on
/hptc_cluster before you install Insight Control for Linux.
HP recommends at least 12 GB of free disk space is available for the /hptc_cluster file system.
3.4.2.9 Configure serial console logging (optional)
If you want to monitor and capture the serial console of the CMS, see the HP Insight Control for
Linux User Guide for instructions on how to configure serial console logging.
3.4.2.10 Decide on the type of database: the Systems Insight Manager database or an existing
Oracle database
By default, Systems Insight Manager installs and uses its own instance of PostgresSQL as its
database. Systems Insight Manager is also compatible with Oracle 9i Release 2 and Oracle 10g
Release 2.
During the Insight Control for Linux installation process, you have the option to use a pre-existing
instance of a supported version of Oracle if you want to override the default Systems Insight
Manager database.
To use an Oracle database, you must create the Oracle database using Unicode (AL32UTF8) as
the character set before installing Systems Insight Manager. You must also specify the thin client
.jar file location. Systems Insight Manager requires Oracle database and Transparent Network
Substrate (TNS) listener services to be up and running when the system is restarted.
Oracle by itself does not start the Oracle database and TNS listener automatically. An Oracle
database administrator (DBA) must set these services to be restarted when the server is reset.
See the Oracle documentation for details on how to start these services automatically.
