1 Overview and description
1.1 Insight Control for Linux overview
Insight Control for Linux is a Linux-hosted management product for HP ProLiant servers in
enterprise environments and high performance workgroups. Insight Control for Linux is designed
as a plug-in to HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM).
In addition to advanced monitoring features, Insight Control for Linux provides a rich set of
remote software deployment features that enable you to deploy supported versions of Red Hat
Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES), or other unsupported
variants of Linux operating systems over a network connection to managed systems.
The Insight Control for Linux software is installed on the server you have chosen to be the Central
Management Server (CMS). You connect to SIM on the CMS and all SIM and Insight Control for
Linux tasks and operations are initiated from the CMS.
1.2 Release overview
This release of Insight Control for Linux is a full ISO image that you can use to perform a full
installation of Insight Control for Linux.
If the CMS is already installed with a previous release of Insight Control for Linux, a mechanism
is available for you to automatically upgrade the CMS to Version 6.0.
The Insight Control for Linux Version 6.0 distribution medium (DVD or ISO image) contains the
following software products and documentation:
• HP SIM Version 6.0
• HP Insight Control for Linux Version 6.0
• HP Insight Control power management Version 6.0
• HP Insight Control virtual machine management Version 6.0
• The source code for the open source products integrated with Insight Control for Linux
• A PDF file and a text file in the /DOCS directory that describes how to obtain the Insight
Control for Linux documentation set and documentation for related HP products from the
World Wide Web.

1.3 New and changed features
This section describes the new and changed features introduced in this release:
1.3.1 Insight Control for Linux licensing
Licensing for Insight Control for Linux now also licenses HP Insight Control power management
Version 6.0 and HP Insight Control virtual machine management.
1.3.2 Support for new servers
Support for the following HP ProLiant servers:
• BL2x220c G6 server blade
• DL585 G6 server
• SL165z G6
