HP Insight Control for Linux 7.1 Installation Guide

5 Installing Systems Insight Manager and Insight Control for
Linux
This chapter describes how to install Systems Insight Manager and Insight Control for Linux.
IMPORTANT: Use the instructions in this chapter if you are performing a new installation of Insight
Control for Linux on a CMS.
If you want to upgrade a previous version of Insight Control for Linux to this release, see Chapter 8
(page 54).
5.1 Insight Control for Linux installation overview
The Insight Control for Linux distribution medium contains the following software products and
documentation:
Systems Insight Manager
Insight Control for Linux
The source code for the third-party open source products that are integrated with Insight Control
for Linux
A file named README.mht in the HP directory that describes how to obtain the Insight Control
for Linux documentation set and the documentation for related products
To begin the installation process, you:
1. Set the umask for root to 0022. Other umask values will likely cause Nagios and other
components of Insight Control for Linux to be misconfigured.
2. Mount the Insight Control for Linux distribution medium for this release.
3. Run the install.sh Insight Control for Linux installation script on the server you have
prepared and configured to be the CMS.
For the list of CMS installation requirements, see Section 3.4 (page 14).
The first phase of the install.sh script determines if Systems Insight Manager and Insight Control
for Linux are already installed on the CMS. The HP Insight Control for Linux Support Matrix lists
the action taken by the install.sh script when it finds previously installed versions of Systems
Insight Manager, Insight Control for Linux, or both.
Next, the installation script verifies that all required RPMs are installed on the CMS. If an RPM
requirement is not installed, the installation script stops so that you can install the missing RPMs.
After you install all RPM requirements and dependencies, you must start the Insight Control for
Linux installation script again.
When all RPM dependencies are met, the installation process proceeds, and you are prompted
to answer a series of configuration questions, which are described in Section 5.2 (page 37).
5.2 Preparing for Insight Control for Linux installation questions
Table 11 provides information about how to answer the installation questions presented by the
install.sh script.
