HP Insight Control for Linux 7.1 Installation Guide

Total control monitoring with integrated industry-proven open source monitoring tools
The following open source monitoring tools have been integrated into Insight Control for Linux:
Nagios, a system and network monitoring application that provides monitoring capabilities
for Insight Control for Linux. Nagios watches specified hosts and services and issues alerts
when problems occur and when problems are resolved.
RRDtool, a round robin database tool and graphing system. Insight Control for Linux uses
RRDtool with Nagios to provide a graphical view of system status.
Supermon, a high-speed cluster monitoring system that emphasizes low perturbation,
high sampling rates, and an extensible data protocol and programming interface.
Supermon works in conjunction with Nagios to provide system monitoring data.
syslog-ng, a tool used for consolidated logging.
Scalable monitoring for hundreds of servers
Insight Control for Linux can monitor and manage hundreds of servers with the infrastructure
to support over one thousand servers through the use of management hubs. Management hubs
are servers that are responsible for monitoring a subset of managed systems. By defining
multiple servers to acts as hubs, the monitoring load is distributed across multiple servers. The
general guideline is to assign one management hub for every 256 managed systems.
Robust power management
Insight Control for Linux includes power management features that provides centralized
monitoring and control of server power consumption and thermal output, sets power regulation
policies for groups of servers, and optimizes and controls use of data center power and cooling
facilities. Power management features and configuration options are accessed through the
following menus:

Virtual machine environments
Insight Control for Linux virtualization features track, monitor, and control functions for
organizing an effective virtualized environment. It leverages key industry alliances to provide
best-in-class management capability across most virtualization software platforms and industry
standard servers.
An Insight Control for Linux CMS can run successfully on a Xen or KVM virtual machine guest;
it provides the same functionality as a CMS on a physical machine. This includes installation,
bare metal discovery, capturing and deploying OS images, and other supported functions.
Virtualization features and configuration options are access through the following menus:
