1 Overview and description 1.1 Insight Control for Linux overview Insight Control for Linux is a Linux-hosted management product for HP ProLiant servers in enterprise environments and high performance workgroups. Insight Control for Linux is designed as a plug-in to HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM).
• • DL980 G7 server SL170s G6 server See the HP Insight Control for Linux Support Matrix for the full list of supported hardware platforms. 1.3.2 Support for new operating systems • Support for the following operating system: — Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Update 5 — SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 1 • Support for the following virtualization operating systems: — VMware ESX (4.0 U2 and 4.1) — VMware ESXi (4.0 U2 and 4.

2 Notes and corrective actions 2.1 Customer advisories A customer advisory is a concise communication clearly identifying specific issues and the effective resolution for selected servers. If you are experiencing difficulty, there might be a customer advisory that can help you. You can receive proactive customized email messages that provide customer advisories as well as drivers, software patches, product change notifications, patches, security bulletins, and more.
2.3.2 Warning message: This system is already enabled This message occurs when you try to apply a license to a system that is already enabled for the product. Corrective action: Deselect the system. 2.4 Discovery This section contains notes about discovery. 2.4.1 Servers with NetXen gPXE NIC require DHCP modifications A server with a NetXen gPXE 4.0.230 NIC will not accept an IP address from a Linux-based dhcpd server, which causes problems with the discovery process.
2.6.2 Configure or Repair Agents failure for managed systems running Red Hat 4.8 When running the Configure→Configure or Repair Agents on a managed system running RHEL 4.8, you might encounter the following message: "Configuration of Agents" timed out since it reached the maximum configuration time allocated for it per system. It is currently set to 360 seconds for each system. If you need to increase this time out, set it as property "CRAConfigureTimeout" in the globalsetting.props file.
# cp /opt/hptc/nagios/etc/nagios_vars.ini /opt/hptc/nagios/etc/nagios_vars.ini.orig 2. Edit the nagios_vars.ini file to update the values for the *_procs_warning and *_procs_critical parameters to values that apply to your environment.
NOTE: This output format was changed for clarity. # nrg --mode analyze Can't locate linux/ioctl.
2.8.1 Kernel parameters required for installing x86 SLES 10 SP3 and SLES 11 on BL465c G7 and BL685c G7 servers Corrective action: To install an x86 SLES 10 SP3 or SLES 11 operating system on a BL465c G7 or a BL685c G7 server, you must supply the appropriate boot parameter in the Kernel append line text field. For this operating system: SLES 10 SP3 (x86) SLES 11 (x86) Use this kernel boot parameter: pci=nomsi apic=bigsmp 2.
Corrective action: Place both disks on the same controller. 2.9.1.4 Log file for deployment issues During a deployment, most messages are written to /tmp/rct-debug.log on the target server. If deployment does not complete, use the console to examine this file. For example, if the source managed system has two disks, but the target managed system only has one disk, you might see the following message in /tmp/rct-debug.
1. 2. 3. 4. Connect to the console of the installed system. Press Alt-F1 to invoke a login session. Log in as the root user. Determine the MAC address of the boot NIC either from the DHCP configuration or using the Network Configuration Editor. Make a note of the MAC address. 5. Identify the Ethernet device for the Boot NIC as follows: a. Run the following command to display the status of the currently active interfaces: # ifconfig | more . . . vmnicA Link encap:Ethernet . . .
Using ESX 3.5 as an example, customize the ESX 3.5 Kickstart file (the template is located in /opt/repository/instconfig/esx035/esx035.cfg) by modifying the network assignment line as shown: Before After network="" network="--device=${nic}" 2.10.2 ESX 4.x installations using PXE fails — Unable to immediately obtain a dynamic address for this interface console message When installing an ESX 4.
Stopping HP SIM Stopping hpsmdb Corrective action: Follow this procedure: 1. On the CMS, run the ps command to find the process ID of the hung mxinitconfig -r process. # ps -ef | grep mxinitconfig root 8626 8600 0 07:47 pts/0 root 29156 17502 0 08:17 pts/1 2. 00:00:02 /opt/mx/bin/mxinitconfig -r 00:00:00 grep mxinitconfig Remove that process with the kill command. # kill -9 8626 Removing the process allows the uninstall.sh script to continue.
