HP Insight Control for Linux 7.0 Installation Guide

Table 2 Installation requirements (continued)
RequirementItem
All components of the CMS and all ProLiant servers you want to manage with
Insight Control for Linux must meet the minimum firmware requirements listed
in the HP Insight Control for Linux Support Matrix.
Minimum firmware versions
You must have downloaded a copy of the PSP that has been tested with this
version of Insight Control for Linux and is appropriate for your hardware.
ProLiant Support Pack
See the HP Insight Control for Linux Support Matrix for the supported PSP
version.
To download a PSP, follow the instructions in Section 10.7.2 (page 66).
NOTE: A PSP is not required if you are installing Insight Control for Linux in
a virtual machine guest.
The software deployment features of Insight Control for Linux require a DHCP
server if you are not using virtual media to boot your managed systems.
DHCP server
If you do not have access to a DHCP server on your network, the Insight Control
for Linux installation process can configure a DHCP server on the CMS. The
Insight Control for Linux installation script will prompt you for DHCP configuration
information.
If you already have a DHCP server on your network that you want to use for
Insight Control for Linux, you will use the instructions in Chapter 4 (page 27)
to configure DHCP according to Insight Control for Linux requirements.
3.4 Preparing a server or a Xen or KVM virtual guest to become the CMS
Use the information in this section to verify and prepare the server or the Xen or KVM virtual guest
you have chosen to be the CMS to meet all requirements for Systems Insight Manager and Insight
Control for Linux.
“CMS installation requirements” (page 14)
“CMS configuration requirements” (page 21)
3.4.1 CMS installation requirements
Verify that the Linux OS installed on the server or the Xen or KVM virtual guest you choose to be
the CMS meets the Systems Insight Manager and Insight Control for Linux installation requirements
described in this section.
Managing virtual machines with Insight Control for Linux is not supported when the CMS is installed
on a Xen or KVM host management domain (Domain 0). Installation on any other Xen or KVM
domain (guest) is subject to the Systems Insight Manager and Insight Control for Linux installation
requirements for a Linux OS described in this section.
3.4.1.1 Verify that the Linux OS version is supported
Verify that the server is installed with and running a RHEL or SLES Linux OS version that matches
the supported versions listed in the HP Insight Control for Linux Support Matrix.
IMPORTANT: HP recommends that you install a new instance of a Linux OS on the CMS because
Systems Insight Manager and Insight Control for Linux have requirements on certain RPM Package
Manager (RPM) software packages. To get the best experience with Insight Control for Linux, HP
recommends that you include the required RPMs during a new installation. Required RPMs are
listed in Section 3.4.1.2 (page 15).
If you do not want to perform a new installation of Linux on the CMS, you might have to resolve
missing RPM requirements manually on the currently installed OS.
