HP Insight Control for Linux 7.0 Installation Guide

HP recommends leaving at least 10 GB of free space available for the repository. Although the
size varies by what you are storing, 10 GB is enough space to store the following:
Two Linux operating systems
Two captured Linux images
Two PSPs
Several script files
Several Kickstart and AutoYaST installation configuration files
If you expect to be storing a lot of data in the repository, HP recommends mounting a separate
file system at /opt/repository to ensure sufficient disk space.
You cannot use a symbolic link to access the /opt/repository directory. HP does not recommend
using NFS to mount this directory.
3.4.2.8 Ensure at least 12 GB of disk space is available for the /hptc_cluster file system
The /hptc_cluster directory on the CMS is required by the Insight Control for Linux monitoring
software, and it is automatically created when you install Insight Control for Linux. This directory
can grow very large with various log files, and in some cases, /hptc_cluster consumes the /
(root) file system.
If you want to manage /hptc_cluster separately, create a file system and mount it on
/hptc_cluster before you install Insight Control for Linux.
HP recommends at least 12 GB of free disk space is available for the /hptc_cluster file system.
3.4.2.9 Configure serial console logging (optional)
If you want to monitor and capture the serial console of the CMS, see the HP Insight Control for
Linux User Guide for instructions on how to configure serial console logging.
3.4.2.10 Decide on the type of database: the Systems Insight Manager database or an existing
Oracle database
By default, Systems Insight Manager installs and uses its own instance of PostgresSQL as its
database. Systems Insight Manager is also compatible with certain releases of Oracle databases;
for information on which Oracle databases are supported and for a recommendation on when to
use an Oracle database, see the HP Insight Control for Linux Support Matrix.
During the Insight Control for Linux installation process, you have the option to use an existing
instance of a supported version of Oracle if you want to override the default Systems Insight
Manager database.
To use an Oracle database, you must create the Oracle database using Unicode (AL32UTF8) as
the character set before installing Insight Control for Linux. You must also specify the location of
the thin client .jar file (ojdbc14.jar). Systems Insight Manager requires Oracle database and
Transparent Network Substrate (TNS) listener services to be up and running when the system is
restarted. For information on the information you need to provide for an Oracle database during
installation, see Table 11 (page 38), in “Preparing for Insight Control for Linux installation questions
(page 37).
Oracle by itself does not start the Oracle database and TNS listener automatically. An Oracle
database administrator (DBA) must set these services to be restarted when the server is reset. See
the Oracle documentation for details on how to start these services automatically.
