HP Insight Control for Linux 7.0 Installation Guide

HP recommends the following network configurations for Insight Control for Linux:
“Two-tier network topology” (page 29)
“Flat single network topology” (page 29)
4.2.1 Two-tier network topology
Figure 1 shows the most common network configuration used with Insight Control for Linux: a basic
two-tier network consisting of separate public and private networks:
The public network uses static or externally provided DHCP IP addresses with connectivity to
the rest of the network or connectivity to the Internet.
The private management network uses DHCP-provided IP addresses from the CMS that is used
by the CMS to communicate, monitor, and control the managed systems.

4.2.2 Flat single network topology
Another common network configuration uses the CMS and managed systems in a flat or single
network, as shown in Figure 2. In a flat configuration, only one network is used for both management
and production traffic. IP addresses are assigned through DHCP from either the CMS or (optionally)
from an existing DHCP server in your environment that is configured to meet Insight Control for
Linux requirements.
