HP Insight Control for Linux 7.0 Installation Guide

through its management processor (MP) directly from the ToolsServer Controls menu.

Guide.
Central software repository
Insight Control for Linux provides a web-based software repository where vendor-supplied
Linux operating systems, installation configuration files (Kickstart and AutoYaST files), ProLiant
Support Packs (PSPs), and captured Linux images are stored for deployment to managed
systems.
The Insight Control for Linux software repository is located in the /opt/repository directory
on the CMS.
Registering software in the repository and copying software to the repository is described in
the HP Insight Control for Linux User Guide.
Remote installation of Linux operating systems to managed systems
Insight Control for Linux enables you to launch the following types of remote network installations
to install a Linux OS on one or more managed systems:
Interactive or unattended installations of RHEL. Unattended installations of RHEL are run
with user-customized Kickstart configuration files that have been registered in the repository.
Interactive or unattended installations of SLES. Unattended installations of SLES are run
with user-customized AutoYaST configuration files that have been registered in the
repository.
Interactive and unattended installations of other variants of (unsupported) Linux operating
systems.
Interactive installations of virtualization software, such as VMware ESX and VMware
ESXi, and unattended installation of VMware ESX and VMware ESXi.
Using Insight Control for Linux tools to remotely install a Linux OS on managed systems is
documented in the HP Insight Control for Linux User Guide.
Automatic firmware updates
Insight Control for Linux enables you to automatically upgrade the firmware on a server on
demand at any time or during a bare metal discovery process. To use this feature, you must
load the appropriate firmware files and tools from the HP Smart Update Firmware DVD into
the Insight Control for Linux repository on the CMS.
Automatic firmware updates are documented in the HP Insight Control for Linux User Guide.
Linux image capture and deployment
Insight Control for Linux enables you to capture a Linux image from a managed system and
save it to the Insight Control for Linux repository. You can then deploy that captured Linux
image to one or more managed systems.
Insight Control for Linux capture and deployment tools are documented in the HP Insight Control
for Linux User Guide.
Capture and deployment scripts
You can create and run Linux scripts before and after Linux OS capture and deployment tasks
to sanitize sensitive security information when you capture or deploy a Linux image.
If you create a script, register it in the repository, and copy it to the /opt/repository/
script directory on the CMS, you can select the script to run before or after a capture or
deployment of an OS.
