1 Preparing for an installation or upgrade
This document provides preinstallation information for the systems administrator who is installing
or upgrading the HP Insight Management. It also provides tables for gathering information requested
by the HP Insight Management Installer during an installation or upgrade.
HP Insight Control includes the rights for HP Insight Control server provisioning, which is a new
feature replacing HP Insight Control server deployment. HP Insight Control server provisioning
performs multi-server operating system provisioning to bare-metal ProLiant and BladeSystem servers.
You can download the HP Insight Control server provisioning installation instructions from http://
www.hp.com/go/insightupdates.
NOTE: HP Insight Control server deployment, HP Insight Control server deployment SIM Integration
module, and HP Insight Control server deployment Quiesce SIM Plugin are removed from the DVD.
HP Insight Control server deployment is available only as a separate download, which can be
purchased. The previously installed version of HP Insight Control server deployment, HP Insight
Control server deployment SIM Integration module, and HP Insight Control server deployment
Quiesce SIM Plugin are not upgraded by the HP Insight Management Installer.
HP Insight Management can only be installed on drives with an 8dot3 filename enabled in
Windows. The 8dot3 filename is enabled on the default drive, which is the C:drive. If you
choose a non-default drive, then use the fsutil command, to check and enable the 8dot3
filename.
For example, before installing Insight Management software on V:drive on a Windows 2012
system, execute the command fsutil 8dot3name set V:0 to enable 8dot3 filename.
NOTE: CMS hosts, storage management servers, vCenter servers, hypervisors, and so on must
be unique across sites in a Matrix recovery management configuration.
Verifying basic information before you begin
Before you begin an HP Insight Management installation or upgrade, verify that you have satisfied
the requirements listed in Table 1.
