Moving from ICLE to ICE-Linux

Migrating Captured Images
As described previously, the storage format used to capture images changed between ICLE and ICE-
Linux and is not directly compatible. The images you have captured need to be redeployed using the
ICLE tool, then recaptured using ICE-Linux. The following is a step-by-step process for completing this
task. Repeat these steps for every captured image you want to preserve.
1. Ensure that you have properly registered a server blade with ICLE, and that its contents are
available to be overwritten. If your server (that is, the managed server, not the CMS) has data or
configurations you need to preserve, either choose a different server or back up its contents using
a tool (such as dump or tar) external to ICLE or ICE-Linux
2. Using your existing ICLE installation, redeploy your captured image to the server chosen in the
previous step.
3. After the deployment is complete, delete the server’s registration from within ICLE.
4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 for every captured image you wish to preserve, making sure to re-deploy
the image to different servers.
5. Reinstall the ICLE CMS with a fresh operating system, and install ICE-Linux according to the steps
provided in HP Insight Control Environment for Linux Getting Started and HP Insight Control
Environment for Linux User’s Guide provided with your ICE-Linux media; or install to a new server,
if you are not re-using the same hardware for the CMS function.
6. Register each of your servers (including the ones re-imaged in the previous steps) with your new
ICE-Linux CMS.
7. Capture each of the re-imaged servers using your new ICE-Linux CMS.
