HP Insight Control for Linux 6.2 User Guide

22.5 Enabling telnet access to iLO management processors
NOTE: The telnet utility is not available on G7 servers.
IMPORTANT: The telnet protocol transmits the user name and password in clear text over
the network to the iLO management processor. HP does not recommend using telnet if your
environment is untrusted.
By default, the cmfd connects to the management processor using the SSH protocol. The iLO
management processors support the SSH protocol, but the LO100i management processors for
the DL100 G5 series servers require an HP LO100i Advanced Pack License to enable SSH support.
Alternatively, if you do not want to purchase this license, you can instruct cmfd to connect to
the management processors using the telnet protocol by performing the following steps:
1. Use the editor of your choice to edit the /opt/hptc/cmf/conf/cmf.conf to add the
following line:
CMF_OPTIONS="-C telnet"
2. Save the file.
3. Restart the cmfd daemon:
# service cmfd restart
NOTE: To enable telnet on an iLO-based management processor, you must connect to the
iLO using a browser and enable telnet by accessing the Administration tab and selecting
SettingsAccess in the left frame.
To enable telnet access to the management processor (iLO) on each managed system, follow
these steps:
1. Open a web browser to the IP address of the management processor:
http://192.0.2.124
2. Enter the management processor user name and password when the login screen appears.
3. Select the Administrator tab.
4. Select Settings, Access in the left pane.
5. Set Telnet Access to Enabled.
6. Repeat this procedure on every managed system.
