HP Insight Control for Linux 6.2 User Guide

25.26 Troubleshooting virtual machine installation and setup problems
Corrective actionCause/Symptom
Perform the appropriate action:
For Xen , use the uname command as follows to verify
that the VM host is running a Xen kernel:
# uname -r
2.6.18-92.e15xen
The text string xen should be embedded in the output.
If the server is not running the appropriate kernel, you
need:
To repeat the VM host installation,
To add any missing Xen components, or
Configure the host to boot from the Xen kernel.
For more information, see Section 11.1 (page 125).
Ensure that the rocommunity string in the /etc/
snmp/snmpd.conf file is public
# grep rocommunity /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf
rocommunity public 127.0.0.1
rocommunity public 192.0.2.55
Verify that the sign-in credentials are correct.
Run OptionsIdentify Systems... to identify the VM
host.
Run the following command and look for entries from
Virt_*.
# cimprovider -l
Ensure that the libvirt-cim and libcmpiutil
packages are installed:
For the SLES 10 operating systems, these packages are
installed by running the ConfigureConfigure or
Repair Agents... task on the VM host, selecting to
install HP Insight Control virtual machine
management.
For other supported operating systems, install these
packages from the RHEL or SLES distribution media.
HP SIM did not properly identify the virtual host
Perform the appropriate action:
Verify that the virtual host is properly identified. (See
HP SIM did not properly identify the virtual host in
this table.)
Run the following command and look for entries from
both cmpiOSBase* and Virt_*.
# cimprovider -l
Ensure that the sblim-cmpi-base, libvirt-cim,
and libcmpiutil packages are installed.
For the SLES 10 operating systems, these packages are
installed by running the ConfigureConfigure or
Repair Agents... task on the VM host, selecting to
install HP Insight Control virtual machine
management.
For other supported operating systems, install these
packages from the RHEL or SLES distribution media.
Verify the network name on the system page for the
CMS. If it is not a fully qualified domain name, stop
and restart SIM.
