HP Insight Control Power Management 7.3 User

Task: Gracefully shutting down virtual machines
Data Center Power Control allows you to stop or shut down the virtual machine (VM) hosts and
guests using the Graceful Shutdown feature. To shut down VM hosts without any errors, you must
stop or shut down the VM guests in a proper manner. The Graceful Shutdown feature shuts down
the VM guests gracefully and then proceeds to shut down the VM hosts. The VMs that are configured
for migrations are allowed to migrate before shutting down the guests. The shutting down of VMs
require VMware tools installed on ESX hosts and integration service tools installed on Hyper-V
hosts.
To shut down VM hosts and guests:
1. Make sure that HP Insight Control virtual machine management is installed and running on
the CMS.
2. Make sure that the required tools are installed on the VM guests.
3. Make sure that the target hypervisors are registered with virtual machine management.
4. Discover and select the node hosting the VMS on the Data Center Power Control page.
5. Run the Graceful Shutdown option on the VM host for the VM guests to shut down.
