HP Insight Management 7.3 Installation and Configuration Guide

Step 2: Running discovery tasks
You should run the discovery tasks in the order specified in “Step 1: Defining discovery tasks
(page 47). Typical errors due to running discovery tasks in an improper order include:
Association errors.
Can occur, for example if a server is not associated with a processor or a virtual machine
management is not associated with a virtual machine management host.
Credentials errors.
Can occur when a discovery task triggers discovery of associated systems or processors and
the credentials for the associated systems are not supplied. If you discover these associated
systems with a subsequent discovery task containing the proper credentials, they should then
complete successfully.
After running a discovery task, you must review the task results output and resolve the issues. The
Insight managed system setup wizard cannot be successful if discovery failures are not addressed.
Failures might include DNS resolution errors, missing serial numbers, and missing UUIDs.
To run the new discovery task or tasks you defined:
1. On the HP Systems Insight Manager Discovery page, select the discovery task you want to
run. The newest tasks are listed at the top of the discovery task table.
2. Click Run Now to start the discovery process.
3. When a discovery task is complete, click View Task Results... to ensure that all actions were
successful. Use the task results output to identify and resolve failures that might have occurred.
4. Repeat this procedure for each discovery task you defined. Do not continue with a discovery
task until each discovery action is successful.
Step 3: Validating discovery results
When validating discovery results, consider the following:
Ensure the model number, operating system and proper system name are discovered. This
information can be scanned quickly using the system list.
Ensure the correct credentials are being used for a system. To verify, go to
OptionsSecurityCredentials.
To validate discovery results:
1. After discovering OAs, select All Systems in the left navigation pane to confirm that the
enclosures, racks, and servers have been discovered.
2. Confirm that the iLO management processor and servers have been discovered and that blade
servers appear with the appropriate enclosure association.
3. If a server has an installed OS, confirm that the server's host name appears correctly.
4. If a server does not have an OS installed, confirm the serial number is displayed.
Step 4: Setting up managed systems with the Insight managed system setup
wizard
Managed system setup includes installing agent software, applying licenses, and configuring
options specific to the management capabilities intended for use on the managed system. The
Insight managed system setup wizard leads you through these setup tasks.
This section provides basic steps on using the Insight managed system setup wizard. For detailed
