12 Generating reports
The HP SIM reporting features enable you to generate many different types of reports. In addition
to offering predefined reports, you also can create user-defined custom reports, and reporting
features enable you to edit, copy, and delete any reports you create. All users with sign-in access
to HP SIM can generate reports.
You have the option to run reports based on a schedule (at a predefined time and frequency) and
you have the option to send the generated report to a predefined recipient through email.
Running reports

Opens a report wizard that enables you to create a new report
and add it to the predefined HP SIM reports.
Reports→New Report...
You can create a report based on events, operating system
information, processor, HP BladeSystem rack, and system license
information.
The report data can be displayed in the form of a bar graph, line
chart (trend), or pie chart.
The report can be generated in HTML (recommended for viewing),
XML, and CSV formats.
Enables you to create, copy, delete, modify or run reports from the
data in the CMS database.
Reports→Manage Reports.
Enables you to compare up to four systems (with the same operating
system) to each other or to compare a single system to itself and
observe changes over time.
Reports→Snapshot Comparison...
Enables you to run predefined reports for HP SIM and Insight
Control. See “Predefined reports for Insight Control” (page 28) for
the list of predefined reports for Insight Control.
Reports→Enhanced Reports...
Enables you to create a query for a federated search to find
discovered systems using criteria such as name, system type,

subtype, and OS. From the search results, you can drill down to
specific systems on specific CMSs, accessing all features on those
CMSs. You can also export the results to comma-separated value
(CSV) format. See “Federated CMS Search tool” in the HP SIM
online help for more information.

Predefined reports for Insight Control
The Reports→Enhanced Reports... menu item contains predefined reports for HP SIM and Insight
Control that are based on common user scenarios. The predefined reports feature is installed,
configured, and available for use as soon as HP SIM is installed and configured.
The following predefined reports are available for Insight Control
Application software running on server
Licensed and expired servers per product
Licensed software run by each server
Modules in C-class enclosure
Most frequent events
