appliance database. These resources and how they work together are described below. Expanded

TIP: Each Insight Control server provisioning resource has its own entry in the main menu.
Insight Control server provisioning resources
Servers – Servers in IC server provisioning generally refer to target servers that need to be or
have been discovered and are available to be managed. Discovered servers are listed in the
master pane of any Servers screen. IC server provisioning works with HP ProLiant servers only.
OS Build Plans – Build Plans are used to accomplish all provisioning chores on target servers.
Build Plans are made up of steps. A step can be a script, package, or configuration file. When
a Build Plan runs, it executes its steps in order; a running Build Plan is called a job.
Scripts – IC server provisioning supports many types of scripting languages that allow you to
run scripts on your target servers to accomplish provisioning tasks. Run a script by placing it
as a step in an OS Build Plan.
Packages – Packages are compressed (zipped) files you can place and then decompress on
the target server as part of a deployment. A package is delivered to a target server when the
package is a step in a Build Plan.
Configuration Files – Configuration files are unattended installation files (for example Linux
AutoYaST files and Windows answer files). These files contain all the answers required by an
installation so it may be run unattended. You can use Build Plan steps to capture the
configuration of a target server to a file, or to deploy a configuration file to a target server so
it may be used during the server’s deployment.
Device Groups — Device Groups are user defined groups of servers used for organizing
servers in ways that are meaningful to you and acting on them together. You can run a Build
Plan against a device group or assign custom attributes to the group which get inherited by
the servers in that group. A server can be in multiple device groups at the same time. Once
a server is added to a group, it will remain in that group until it is removed from the group or
deleted from the appliance.
Jobs – A job is a Running Build Plan. You can monitor jobs and view jobs history from the
Jobs screen. You can also see server status and access log output from the Jobs screen.
In the Insight Control server provisioning UI you can also configure various settings, configure user
accounts and manage integrations with HP OneView and Matrix Operating Environment. The
main menu has menu items for Settings, Matrix Integration Settings, Users and Groups and HP
OneView Appliances.
