HP Insight Control Server Provisioning 7.3 Update 1 Administrator Guide

Legacy BIOS boot mode, some OS Build Plans can be run in either boot mode, and some OS Build
Plans may support UEFI boot mode, but only if optimized is disabled. See the Insight Management
Support Matrix for details on what operating system versions support UEFI and any other limitations.
NOTE: By default, UEFI secure boot is not enabled. To enable it, you must manually set it in the
RBSU.
NOTE: You cannot install an OS in UEFI mode if secure boot has been enabled. You can enable
UEFI secure boot after the OS has been installed.
NOTE: OS Build Plans from previous releases that you have customized may not run in UEFI
mode since they may contain steps that had not been modified to work in both Legacy BIOS boot
mode and UEFI boot mode.
Making the SLES11 SP2 OS Build Plan work properly on ML310e Gen8
v2 and DL320e Gen8 v2 servers
The SLES11 SP2 OS Build Plan does not work properly on the ML310e Gen8 v2 and DL320e
Gen8 v2 servers unless you use a special kISO bootloader.
Follow the instructions below to set up a special repository consisting of the sources from the base
SLES11 SP2 distribution and the contents of the Hewlett Packard (vendor) supplied kISO media:
To use a special kISO bootloader
1. Download the kISO and mount ISO file for access at: http://drivers.suse.com/hp/
HP-ProLiant-Gen8/
2. Create a SLES distribution repository in a directory such as in the following example:
/repositories/SLES-11SP2-kISO-x86_64
3. Create an add-on directory under your new repository directory. For example:
/repositories/SLES-11SP2-kISO-x86_64/addon
4. Copy the kISO contents to the add-on directory.
5. Replace the original installation kernel and initrd files with the ones from the kISO add-on
directory as follows:
a. Copy addon/boot/x86_64/loader/initrd to addon/boot/x86_64/loader/initrd.
b. Copy addon/boot/x86_64/loader/linux to boot/x86_64/loader/linux.
6. Click Save as to create an OS Build Plan from the existing SLES11 SP 2 Build Plan that can
be edited.
7. Edit the "Set Media Source" step in the new Build Plan and change the parameter to point to
the new directory.
8. Delete the "ProLiant Drivers for SLES 11 SP2 x64" step as the kISO will have all the necessary
drivers.
Network hardware exceptions
The following list specifies provisioning exceptions for network adapters, storage controllers, and
network interface cards .
IMPORTANT: For information on how to deploy an operating system to target servers with SAN,
refer to the HP SAN Design Reference Guide located at: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/
support/SupportManual/c00403562/c00403562.pdf. Open zone configuration violates several
of the HP SAN Design Guide best practices rules, and these violations may be the cause of server
crashes. Please see sections on Common server, common HBAs, different HBAs and Zoning rules
in the HP SAN Design Reference Guide for guidance.
