The documentation included with Insight Control server provisioning contains information specific
to setting up and using the product to perform automated provisioning functions on your HP servers.
The users of IC server provisioning are expected to have advanced knowledge of installing and
managing the operating systems and hardware they are using this product to provision.
Components of Insight Control server provisioning
Insight Control server provisioning includes the following components:
The Appliance is the HP Insight Control server provisioning product, that is delivered as a
virtual machine optimized to run the application.
The Insight Control server provisioning appliance comes with an embedded DHCP server.
Depending on your environment, you may configure this server for use or disable it via the
appliance UI Settings screen. See the HP Insight Control Server Provisioning Installation Guide
for additional information.
The Appliance IP address is the IP address assigned to the appliance. Use this IP address to
browse to the appliance via a supported Browser, or when making REST calls to perform
specialized functions.
The Deployment IP address is the IP address used for all deployment operations and target
server communications. If you are using IC server provisioning with the Matrix Operating
Environment, this is also the IP address your CMS will communicate with.
When configuring your appliance, you have the option to have the Appliance IP and the
Deployment IP addresses sharing one network interface (Single NIC), or to use a separate
network interface for each IP address (Multi-NIC). See the HP Insight Control Server Provisioning
Installation Guide section on “Appliance networking considerations” for details.
The Target server represents a server managed by IC server provisioning. Each managed
server runs an Agent, which is software used to make changes to the server. The agent is used
for software installation and removal, software and hardware configuration, and server status
reporting.
The Media Server contains vendor-supplied OS media used during OS provisioning. It may
also contain media for other purposes, such as firmware and driver updates, and is also where
captured images are stored. The Media Server is a separate server from the Insight Control
server provisioning appliance and is not included as part of the appliance backup and restore
actions.
HP Insight Control server provisioning concepts
Insight Control server provisioning uses resources to provision target servers with operating systems
and updates like HP Service Packs for ProLiant. They are stored in the IC server provisioning
