1 Introduction The HP ProLiant SCCM 2012 Integration Kit provides the following for SCCM: • Support for deploying ProLiant servers via the SCCM OSD feature • Extended ProLiant inventory data in the SCCM Resource Explorer via the SCCM Hardware Inventory Client Agent • A dynamic collection that represents all HP ProLiant servers The kit contains: • HP Service Pack for ProLiant Windows Server drivers and smart components • HP Scripting Toolkit WinPE hardware configuration utilities What's New in this
2 Support matrix Supported System Center products The kit can be installed on the following version of SCCM: SCCM 2012 SP1 (running on Windows Server 2012 only) NEW Supported target operating systems The following operating system can be deployed to the target servers: Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 (SP agnostic, non-Core editions only) Windows Server 2012 x64 (SP and edition agnostic) NEW Supported target servers The following servers can be deployed to and maintained: ProLiant BL2x220c G7 ProLiant DL120 G7
3 Installing and configuring the HP ProLiant SCCM 2012 Integration Kit Considerations • Migrating HP content from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012 is not supported. • Do not install HP Insight Control server deployment and SCCM on the same network because they both contain PXE servers. • When upgrading, HP supplied files and scripts are overwritten. If you have modified these files and scripts, make a backup copy before upgrading. Installation 1.
4. On the Verify Prerequisites screen, click Verify. If the verification fails, make the necessary corrections and click Verify again. 5. 6. When the verification is successful, click Next. On the Install screen, click Install. 7. 8. When the installation is complete, click Next. On the Configure screen, click Configure.
9. On the Summary screen, click Close. The installation log is named hpproliantsccm2012kit-install.log and is located in the Windows directory. Configuration The installer performs the following configuration tasks. If you choose to skip any of the configuration tasks or any of them are unsuccessful, you must manually perform the following actions.
4 Deploying Windows Server to ProLiant servers Deploying Windows Server follows the standard SCCM OSD methodology—create a task sequence, configure the task sequence, and deploy the task sequence to a collection. To simplify the process of deploying to server hardware, HP provides a wizard to help you create a task sequence for deploying Windows Server to ProLiant servers. To deploy Windows Server to a ProLiant server: 1. Ensure that the following conditions are met: 2.
3. Optionally, configure the new task sequence. NOTE: HP recommends setting an Administrator password and joining the domain. IMPORTANT: 4. The task sequence must install the operating system to C: on Disk 0. Deploy the task sequence to a collection The following options need to be selected: 5. • On the Deployment Settings screen, set Purpose = Required, and set Make available to the following = Configuration Manager clients, media and PXE.
5 Collecting extended inventory data The HP ProLiant Inventory Tool collects extended ProLiant hardware and software information that can be used to create enhanced collections and reports. For a listing of the tables and fields, see the Inventory tool data section (page 16). The inventory tool is executed as part of the default task sequence to collect initial inventory data. To run the inventory tool for future hardware or software changes: 1. Ensure that the following conditions are met: 2.
6 Reference Console The various components of the kit are integrated into the standard SCCM console folders. • 12 The Packages folder contains the following software packages: Package Description HP ProLiant Configuration Manager Client Package The SCCM agent used during the task sequence. HP ProLiant Hardware Configuration STK utilities and input files. HP ProLiant Inventory Tool Inventory tool. HP ProLiant Post-OS Configuration Drivers and agents.
Task sequence Figure 1 Task sequence The task sequence is divided into two steps—Configure Hardware and Install Operating System. The names of the steps and tasks indicate their function. NOTE: The tasks that appear in the Configure Hardware step depend on the selections made in the Create HP ProLiant Deployment Task Sequence dialog. A computer variable and conditions on the two steps are used to control the processing of the task sequence across multiple reboots.
Table 1 Hardware configuration tasks Task Description Underlying STK utility Boot Order Sets the system boot order. Setting PXE first in the boot order is required. setbootorder.exe BIOS Sets the system BIOS configuration. conrep.exe or hprcu.exe Smart Array Sets the Smart Array RAID configuration. hpacuscripting.exe iLO Sets the iLO 2 or later configuration. hponcfg.exe • The tasks are designed to set/write a configuration, not get/read/capture a configuration.
Table 2 Pre-supplied files (continued) File Description hponcfg-rdpassthrough.xml Enables Remote Desktop pass-through hponcfg-agentless.xml Enables agentless management on iLO4-based servers. This file may require editing before being used. To use a custom configuration file: 1. Browse to .\OSD\Lib\Packages\HP\ProLiant\HWConfig. 2. Create a new file by copying and editing an existing file, starting with a blank file, or using an existing file. NOTE: 3. 4.
Inventory tool data The inventory tool is a command-line utility. When executed, it generates HP#.mif files in the NOIDMIFS directory. The information in these files is collected by the Hardware Inventory Client Agent, populated into the SCCM database, and viewable in the Resource Explorer.
7 Troubleshooting Install fails immediately after a reboot To resolve this issue, wait approximately 15 minutes, then retry. The Create HP ProLiant Deployment Task Sequence wizard listboxes are empty There are several possible causes: • The logged in user doesn't have SCCM permissions to view the various required packages. • On 2012.08.0, the logged in user doesn't have permission to enumerate the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\ComponentStudio registry key.
The target server fails to join the domain When performing a Windows deployment to some servers with Broadcom network adapters, the deployment is successful but the target server fails to join the domain. To resolve this issue: • Manually join the domain on the target server. • Add a Join Domain or Workgroup task before the Reset Reboot Variable task. Configure the new task to be identical to the Apply Network Settings task.
