The CMS configuration may include one or both of the following virtual appliances:

HP Insight Control server provisioning
—Used to install OS images and configure HP ProLiant servers
•
HP Matrix KVM Private Cloud
—Used to configure and manage Red Hat KVM hypervisors, and to enable provisioning and
ongoing management of Red Hat KVM virtual machines
They are separate virtual appliances which do not reside on the CMS. The backup and restore procedures for these
appliances can be performed independently of the CMS, and are not documented in this white paper. See the following

CMS configurations
The HP Insight Management software CMS can have different configurations. The procedures in this white paper cover the
following configurations:
• Standalone CMS
• HP Matrix infrastructure orchestration federated CMS
• Microsoft Failover Cluster (for high availability)
The standalone CMS is the basic configuration in which all components run on a single server. This configuration may also be
referred to as a non-federated CMS.
For HP Matrix infrastructure orchestration federated CMS environments, multiple HP Insight Management CMSs are
federated together. In this configuration, HP Matrix infrastructure orchestration runs on only one CMS, the primary CMS. The
primary CMS communicates with one or more secondary CMSs. A secondary CMS does not run infrastructure orchestration,
but managed resources on this CMS can be configured and provisioned by infrastructure orchestration on the primary CMS.
