Images from Image Captures
Images Created with Symantec rdeploy Utility
IC server provisioning does not have the capability of using images created by Symantec’s rdeploy utility.
To use the image data with IC server provisioning
1. The image will need to be deployed to a target server using RDP.
2. The target server migrated to IC server provisioning by a method described in the Target Server section.
3. A new image captured of the target server using IC server provisioning.
Images Created with Symantec Ghost
IC server provisioning does not have the capability of using images created by Symantec’s Ghost Solution.
To use the image data with IC server provisioning
1. The image will need to be deployed to a target server using RDP.
2. The target server migrated to IC server provisioning by a method described in the Target Server section.
3. A new image captured of the target server using IC server provisioning.
Images Created with ImageX
Images captured with ImageX via RDP job do not always work properly when deployed with IC server provisioning.
To use the image data with IC server provisioning
1. The image will need to be deployed to a target server using RDP.
2. The target server migrated to IC server provisioning by a method described in the Target Server section.
3. A new image captured of the target server using IC server provisioning.
Hardware Configuration and Operating System Answer Files
The captured or customized hardware configuration files for System BIOS, Smart Array, and iLO configurations, may be
used with IC server provisioning without modification. IC server provisioning uses the same utilities with the same
configuration file format as RDP.
Captured or customized Fibre Channel HBA configuration files will require modification to be used with IC server
provisioning since IC server provisioning uses different HBA configuration utilities.
Any customized RDP answer files: Windows unattend, Red Hat Linux or ESXi 5.x kickstart, and SUSE Linux autoyast, will
require modification to be used with IC server provisioning. VMware ESX 4 deployments are not supported with IC server
provisioning and its answer files will not be converted.
RDP uses macros for name, value substitution where IC server provisioning uses custom attributes. Finding these
references are important to migrating the files to IC server provisioning. RDP macro syntax example is @@aaaa@@
where aaaa is the variable name. IC server provisioning custom attribute syntax example is @xxxx:yyyy@ where
xxxx is the variable name and yyyy is the optional default value if xxxx name is not found in the database.
