HP System Management Homepage 7.0 Installation Guide

NOTE: If the user ID (UID) and the group ID (GID) are already being used by the LDAP users,
there may be a conflict when you use LDAP or any other network service to manage user and
group accounts. To avoid this conflict, add a local hpsmh user and group using a unique UID and
GID (IDs not in use by LDAP or the other network services) manually before installing the HP SMH.
1. Determine the available reserved IDs for the group (for example: 130) and for the user (for
example: 125).
2. Add the group running the command:
/usr/sbin/groupadd -g 130 hpsmh
3. Add the user running the command:
/usr/sbin/useradd -u 125 -g hpsmh -d/var/opt/hpsmh -c "System
Management Homepage" hpsmh
NOTE: With the SMH rpm upgrade, you can retain hpsmh users entries in /etc/passwd and
/etc/group files while SMH rpm uninstallation removes all hpsmh entries from the corresponding
files.
Configuring HP SMH
After the HP SMH is installed, you can configure the settings. If you are migrating from a version
of HP SMH prior to 3.0, the previous settings are retained. However, the retained settings are
configurable.
To configure the HP SMH settings:
1. Use the CLI smhconfig tool located at /opt/hp/hpsmh/sbin.
2. Enter the following command to start the configuration: /opt/hp/hpsmh/sbin/smhconfig
