HP Integrity Online VM Migration and GUI management tools

vmmgr is able to distinguish between a guest that is not running (Off) and a guest that has been
migrated to another host (NR). The guest that has been migrated to a different VM Host is indicated.
When a user attempts to migrate such a VM, this error is detected and migration is prevented by
Integrity VM as shown in Figure 12:

The second class of mistake is to modify the guest when it is running on a different VM Host. In this
case, the modification is allowed; however, the changes do not take effect on the host where the
guest is currently running, and are erased when the guest is migrated back.
Workarounds
A rule of thumb in an online migration environment is to always double-check a guest that is listed as
“Off.” If you are running vmmgr from HP SIM or the HP Insight Dynamics VSE Virtualization
Manager, you can look at either the “All Servers,” “All VSE Resources,” or “VMs” displays. They
should display the guest in the proper host and indicate the proper status. Alternatively, you can
“ping” the guest (if it is running an OS), or use multiple vmmgr windows.
