HP Integrity Online VM Migration and GUI management tools

Prerequisites
The VM Hosts must have common access to storage, such as a storage area network (SAN).
The VM Hosts must be on the same subnets and have equivalent virtual switch configurations.
The VM Hosts must have a private subnet to transfer guest memory images. The subnet must be
1 gigabit or faster.
The VM Hosts must be running Integrity VM version 4.1 or later with the latest recommended patches.
The VM Hosts must have processors from the same Itanium
®
Processor Family (see Table 1 in the
section Configuring the Environment”).
The Online VM Migration software, T8718AC must be installed on both the Hosts. This enables the
VM Hosts to participate in online migration.
Integrity VM Manager
The Integrity Virtual Machines Manager (VM Manager or vmmgr) GUI may be run from System
Management Homepage (SMH) or from HP Insight Dynamics VSE. The tool can be used to create,
modify, start, and stop virtual machines and virtual switches. It also displays and manages storage
and networking for the virtual machines (see Figure 1).
Starting with HP Insight Dynamics VSE 6.0 release, vmmgr in HP Insight Dynamics VSE supports
initiating Online VM Migration. The SMH version of vmmgr supports this feature from the March
2010 HP UX Fusion Release.
Figure 1: Virtual Machines Manager Storage and Network Displays
In the preceding diagram, the virtual machines VM1, VM2, and VM6 are connected to a storage that
is external to the VM Host. These LUNs can be made available on another VM Host too. Thus VM1,
VM2, and VM6 satisfy one of the prerequisites (see prerequisites section) to be able to be migrated to
a different host. However, VM3 is connected to a local storage device. This may not be available on
another host. Thus VM3 does not meet the pre-requisite to be able to be migrated.
