Instructions

Abstract

This document describes how to install the 10 Gigabit

Ethernet (GbE) SFP+ for the HP StoreVirtual 4330. Note

that the HP 4330 FC ships with the 10 GbE SFP+ installed.

If you need to replace the 10 GbE SFP+ in either the HP

4330 or HP 4330 FC, you can use the instructions in this

document.

Overview

Instructions vary depending on whether this is an

upgrade (the 4330 is new and/or not in a

management group) or a migration (the 4330 is

already in a management group).

For an upgrade, the steps are:

1. Install the 10 GbE board.

2. Configure the 10 GbE ports.

3. Configure bonds.

4. Change the SAN/iQ interface (under the storage

system Network category, on the Communication

tab) to bond configured using 10 GbE ports

(NICSlot1:Port1 & 2).

For a migration, the steps are:

1. Plan for the migration.

2. Shut down the management group.

3. Install the 10 GbE board.

4. Configure bonds.

5. Change the SAN/iQ interface (under the storage

system Network category, on the Communication

tab) to bond configured using 10 GbE ports

(NICSlot1:Port1 & 2).

6. Prepare the host server.

The 10 GbE feature option adds 10 GbE to the HP

StoreVirtual 4330 platform. This is an add-on feature

to the 1 Gb 4 port FlexLOM module installed on the

system motherboard of the 4330 storage systems. After

the 10 GbE dual port Ethernet adapter is installed and

configured, users see six Ethernet interfaces listed in

the Centralized Management Console in the storage

system Network category, on the TCP/IP tab window

(four for 1 GbE and two for 10 GbE). These six

Ethernet interfaces can be bonded a number of ways.

The CMC reports the network interface names of these

six Ethernet interfaces as noted in Table 1 (page 1).

Unsupported bonds with 10 GbE providing storage volumes, you must follow certain steps to ensure an effective migration to the new hardware configuration. The migration procedures in this document cover one possible bonded configuration — the ALB bond configured with two 10 GbE interfaces as an ALB bonded pair. The 4330 with the 10 GbE feature installed and configured does not support the following bond types: TIP: HP recommends bonding network interfaces for performance and failover.

1. 2. Power down the storage system, using the CMC: a. Log in to the system from the CMC. b. Right–click the storage system and select Power Off or Reboot. c. In the window that opens, select Power off. 7. Install the 10 GbE board into the open slot in the PCI cage until it seats firmly. Tighten the screw to hold the board in place. To replace the 10 GbE board: Alternatively, you can power down the system by quickly pressing and releasing the storage system power button two times.

a. b. c. d. Power on the other storage systems in the management group. Rediscover the storage systems in the CMC. Wait for the storage system status to become Normal on all storage systems. Verify that the management group is operating with a status of Normal. (Once all storage systems are up with all SAN/iQ software services running properly, the CMC shows the management group status as Normal.) again. To allow this IP address click OK.

5. Right–click and select New Bond. The Create Bond Configuration window opens. 8. not, click Communication Tasks and select Update Manager IP Addresses. At this point, the SAN is ready to communicate via the bonded 10 GbE interface. Preparing the host server to be 10 GbE capable While reconnecting to the iSCSI volumes, configure the iSCSI initiator on the host server to communicate via the 10 GbE interface for all iSCSI communication.
