Prior to introducing this feature, traditional management systems required SNMP agents and similar software to run on the OS.

To monitor a bare-metal HP ProLiant Gen8 server, you need only power on the server and configure SNMP parameters.

The service generates SNMP v1 traps (messages about the status of monitored subsystems) and directs them to trap destinations (such as HP SIM). Trap destinations are specified in the iLO 4 GUI AdministrationManagement configuration page.

When configured, SNMP requests received by the iLO 4 are “tunneled” through to the legacy SNMP service on the host.
