HP Agentless Management with HP ProLiant Gen8 servers
HP ProLiant Gen8 servers can support OS-based management as described in the preceding section. However, with the iLO 4 BMC
configured to support Agentless Management, HP ProLiant Gen8 servers do not require installation of SNMP agents and related
software on the OS. As shown in Figure 2, the HP Agentless Management Service runs on the OS and provides OS-dependent
information to the iLO 4 SNMP service. Health monitoring and alerting is built into the server, running on the iLO hardware independent
of the OS and processor. The HP iLO 4 BMC monitors all key internal subsystems. The monitoring and alerting processes can continue
functioning regardless of the state of the OS. The remote management system uses SNMP to communicate directly with the iLO 4 BMC.
SNMP runs externally to the OS, saving processor cycles and memory usage otherwise required for handling the SNMP data.
