HP StorageWorks XP Data Integrity Check user guide for XP12000/XP10000/SVS200 (T1618-96004, December 2008)

1 Overview of Data Integrity Check
Function overview
Data Integrity Check insures validity and protects Oracle data stored on the array. Data Integ rity Check
has the following two purposes (see Figure 1):
Preventing invalid da ta from being written to the a rray
When data is stored on the d isk array, the data is transferred through many paths and can become
invalid. Data Integrity Check ensures that the Oracle data is valid before it is written to the disk a rray.
If the data is invalid, D ata Integrity Check prevents the invalid Oracle data from being written.
Consequently, it provides high data reliability and increases data m ana gement efciency by reducing
costs and saving the time and resources required for the recovery of invalid O racle data.
Protecting existing data in the subsystem
Once O racle data is stored on the disk array, Data Integrity Check protects the data fro m being
deleted or updated by mistake. This is accomplished by checking the data to be stored on the same
volume. If data created in another application is being written to a volume where Oracle data is
stored, an error is generated.
