HP Matrix Operating Environment 7.3 and 7.3 Update 1 Logical Server Management User Guide

Authorizations, requirements, and configuration
To use the Logical Servers feature in Matrix OE visualization, you need the following authorizations:
The Matrix OE All Tools authorization is required to operate on a logical server, regardless
of the authorization required to operate on a specific host.
The Matrix OE Monitor authorization is required to create and view a logical server, and to
view a entry.
The Matrix OE Storage authorization is required to manage storage pools and storage tags.
NOTE: These authorizations apply to environments in which administrators manage all systems
discovered in the CMS. If you use host-based authorizations and configure custom system lists to
restrict authorizations for some administrators, and these administrators use logical servers, consider
adding the Logical Servers system list with automatic updating for the specified administrator, as
described below. Without this configuration, the administrator can create a logical server but will
not be able to view it in Systems Insight Manager.
Perform the following steps to create a system list that dynamically tracks the Logical Servers
collection and gives the specified administrator the Matrix OE Monitor authorization on that system
list.
1. From the upper, blue menu-bar, select OptionsSecurityUsers and Authorizations.
2. Select the Authorizations tab and click New.
3. Select the radio-button next to Manually assign toolbox and system/system group
authorizations.
4. Click the Add link in the Select Systems box.
5. On the Add Systems screen, select Logical Server from the drop-down menu, then click the
Apply button.
6. On the New Authorizations screen, select a user from the drop-down menu.
7. Check the Matrix OE Monitor check box in the Select Toolbox(es) box.
8. Make sure that the Logical Servers check box is checked in the Select Systems box, and click
the Apply button.
Logical server requirements
The Logical Servers feature in Matrix OE visualization supports the following software. If you are
using other versions of these products, intermittent failures, especially during moves, can occur.
See the HP Insight Management 7.3 Update 1 Support Matrix for more detailed information.
Requirements for virtual machine logical servers
VMware ESX Server
Supported version of VMware ESX/ESXi (see Insight Management Support Matrix at www.hp.com/
go/matrixoe/docs).
Configure vCenter Server credentials in Systems Insight Manager
Install VMware Tools on the guest operating system (Use the Inventory menu in the VMware
Virtual Infrastructure Client, then select Virtual MachineInstall/Upgrade VMware Tools)
Storage: ESX virtual machines whose boot and data storage are files within the hypervisor
file system. That file system can be on local disk, FC SAN, Flat SAN (direct connect to HP
3PAR StoreServ), and iSCSI. Also supported are hypervisor file systems on NAS and virtual
machines using Raw Device Mapping (RDM) to access a FC LUN directly.
For more information, see “VM guest storage options (page 26).
UUID: A virtual machine that is managed by logical server management must keep its Universal
Unique Identifier (UUID) when prompted by VMware. When you power on a virtual machine
