HP Matrix Operating Environment 7.3 and 7.3 Update 1 Logical Server Management User Guide

The number of server WWNs allocated to each port of a storage pool entry is based on the number
of allowed sharers specified by pool entry’s Maximum Number of Sharers field. One server WWN
is allocated per port for each allowed sharer. As logical servers share this pool entry, they are
assigned one specific server WWN per port.
The value in the Available column in the Storage Pools table on the Manage Storage Pools screen
is determined by the number of server WWNs you have checked as Ready, minus the number of
server WWNs that are already assigned (the number of logical servers sharing this pool entry).
Figure 24 Manage storage pool
The number of storage entries that appear as Available in the Storage Pool Entries table on the
Manage Storage Pools screen is determined by the number of server WWNs marked as Ready
minus the number of logical servers that are already sharing the storage entry:
Available = Ready - Sharers
If two or more ports are specified, the port with the lower number of server WWNs marked as
Ready is used to determine the number of available storage entries.
The Owner column shows the name(s) of the logical server(s) that share the storage pool entry. A
storage pool entry has an owner only if it has been associated with a logical server on the Create
Logical Server storage screen, or the Modify Logical Server storage tab.
Validating storage
If using SAN Storage Entry (no use of SPM), you can optionally validate your Virtual Connect
logical server storage configuration by performing on-demand checking of Enterprise Virtual Array
(EVA) and Modular Smart Array (MSA) storage. Validation allows you to identify and correct errors
by confirming the existence of each storage WWN and LUN ID pair. It also compares each storage
volume attribute by displaying the user-defined value with the actual value. Matrix OE communicates
with the storage to verify the volume definitions.
The storage validation feature of Matrix OE logical server management is supported on the following
HP disk arrays:
HP P2000 G3 MSA Storage and HP MSA 2040 Fibre Channel
Using explicit or default mapping
MSA SMI-S provider version 1.1.2 or later
EVA 4x00/6x00/8x00 and HP P6300/P6350/P6500/P6550
