Unable to reboot operating system after OS installation by RDP on ESX virtual machine
logical servers
If you create and activate an ESX virtual machine logical server with PXE enabled, the operating
system is deployed on the logical server using RDP. However if you attempt to reboot or redeploy
the operating system, the error “Operating system not found” is displayed in the VM console.
Suggested action Modify the newly created virtual machine using VMware vCenter, as follows.
1. In the left panel, stop the virtual machine.
2. Right click on the virtual machine name and select Edit Settings....
3. Select the Options tab. Under Advanced, select General, then press the Configuration
Parameters button.
4. Edit the bios.bootDeviceClasses property. Add ,hd to the property if it is not there.
The property box should contain allow:net,hd
5. Start the virtual machine.
PXE setting enabled for virtual machine logical servers shows incorrect value after activation
and cannot be disabled
When a virtual machine logical server is created and PXE is set to Enabled for any network,
after the logical server is activated, PXE cannot be disabled on the virtual machine. (Enabling
PXE allows the system to search on that network for an installer service, such as RDP, to initiate
a network install of the operating system.)
In addition, after PXE is set to Enabled and the logical server is activated:
the Logical Server Details screen incorrectly shows the PXE setting as Disabled
the Modify Logical Server Network tab incorrectly shows the PXE setting as Disabled. If
you save the information on the screen and reactivate the logical server, the setting is not
changed to Disabled
Suggested action Modify the virtual machine using VMware vCenter to set the PXE value to
Disabled.
1. In the left panel, stop the virtual machine.
2. Right click on the virtual machine name and select Edit Settings....
3. Select the Options tab. Under Advanced, select General, then press the Configuration
Parameters button.
4. Edit the bios.bootDeviceClasses property. Remove net, from the property. The
property box should contain allow:hd
5. Start the virtual machine.
Viewing or editing the logical server management properties file may cause failure of the
LSA service
Viewing or editing the lsa.properties file may write lock the file while the HP Logical Server
Automation service is running. This may cause a serious failure of the service.
Suggested action Use a text editor that does not lock the file, such as Emacs, Notepad, or
TextPad.
