Central management server
(CMS)
A system in the management domain that executes the HP Systems Insight Manager software. All
central operations within HP Systems Insight Manager are initiated from this system. The Matrix
OE and HP Storage Provisioning Manager software solutions run on the CMS.
Designer
A Web application that enables you to plan and design multi-server, multi-tier infrastructures
using a drag-and-drop interface
HP Systems Insight Manager
(HP SIM)
An HP systems and resources monitoring and management product
Logical server
A group of physical or virtual resources managed by HP Matrix OE. An administrator controls
resource utilization by allowing users access to resource pools.
SPM
HP Storage Provisioning Manager, a solution which enables the storage administrator to defined
a catalog of storage which can be automatically matched to requests from the server
administrator (typically to provide LUNs for logical server boot and data).
Storage Entry
A description of storage to be consumed by a logical server. Certain types of storage entries can
be placed in the portability group storage pools (all types for physical SAN storage, not the File
(VM) Storage).
Storage Pool Entry
A storage entry which has been placed in a storage pool affiliated with a portability group. The
storage pool entry describes storage to be consumed by a logical server, including number of
sharers, operating system required, and one or more volumes with their size, RAID, redundancy,
and other information. There are various types of storage pool entries, including the standard
SAN Storage Entry and new entry types to consume storage from the HP SPM storage catalog.
Converged Network Adapter
(CNA)
Combines the functionality of a host bus adapter (HBA) with a network interface controller (NIC).
Tag
A text string representing terminology agreed to by the server and storage administrators to describe
storage. Tags may reflect tiers of storage (e.g., gold/silver/bronze, tier1/tier2, or production/test-dev)
or specific capabilities (e.g., replication capable).
