HP Storage Provisioning Manager (SPM) version 2.3 User Guide

If enabled by the checkbox at the bottom of the Summary page, the Import Storage Pool Wizard
appears immediately after the array is imported.
HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage System virtual domains
HP 3PAR Virtual Domain software provides a user-based, restricted access system for managing
storage resources. Using virtual domains, a user can be given private control of their storage
resources, without the ability to see any other users' resources. Storage resources can be managed
and provisioned as necessary within a domain.
SPM represents HP 3PAR virtual domains in the form of separate "domain arrays”, one for each
domain defined on the storage system. Components that do not belong to any domain are included
in a domain array called the “–“ domain array or default array. Once imported into the SPM
catalog, HP 3PAR domain arrays and the components they contain can be used like normal arrays
and components.
NOTE: HP 3PAR virtual domains are displayed as separate array entries in the list of arrays to
import, in the format Array name (virtual domain name).
For more information, see “Understanding 3PAR Storage System virtual domains” (page 82).
Importing a storage pool
SPM supports arrays that use storage pools to segregate sections of disk storage. This can be useful
when it is desired to only use a portion of an array, or different permissions will be used for different
portions of an array. The array management interface can be used to create the storage pools.
Only those storage pools that SPM is allowed to use should be imported into the SPM catalog. In
this way, SPM might manage only a subset of an array, and may allow on-demand provisioning
in one storage pool, but not another.
To manage an existing storage pool, see Managing storage pools.
To import storage pools:
1. From the Navigation tree, select Storage Pools, then click Import Storage Pools.
Alternatively, from the Navigation tree, select Getting Started and then click Import Storage
Pools; or right click on Storage Pools and then click Import Storage Pools.
The Import Storage Pool Wizard appears.
2. On the Choose Arrays page, select arrays from which to import storage pools, then click Next.
TIP: To filter the arrays, enter the name of the array in the Search box.
3. On the Import Storage Pools page, select storage pools to import, then click Next.
4. On the Storage Pool Properties page, enter tag names and select a security group to be
assigned to the imported arrays. To enter tags, type the tag name and click the + icon. When
complete, click Next.
NOTE: Resources that will be made available to Matrix OE need to be in a security group
that provides sufficient access by the Matrix roles, such as the Matrix User Security Group.
5. On the Summary page, confirm the settings. To make changes, click Back to return to the
previous wizard pages.
By default, the Import Volume Wizard is launched after the import storage pool operation is
completed. To disable this setting, clear the Launch the Import Volume wizard after completion
check box.
6. When all settings are confirmed, click Finish.
