HP Storage Provisioning Manager (SPM) version 2.3 User Guide

3. Click Resync All Arrays.
The arrays are resynchronized and list of available arrays is displayed.
NOTE:
This procedure resynchronizes all resources of the appropriate type when no items are
selected. If any items are selected, the action resynchronizes only the selected items.
A single array can be resynchronized by right-clicking on it and selecting the resynchronize
menu option.
Changing the resync interval
The time interval SPM uses to resynchronize its catalog data on a resource with the device is set
in the SPM configuration file (ApplicationConfig.xml). By default, it is set to 60 minutes. For
performance reasons, it may be necessary to increase this time interval. If a device responds slowly
to SPM’s requests for data on resources, SPM may attempt to resynchronize resources on a device
when the device is still working on an earlier request to resynchronize those very resources. If this
occurs, it may be useful to increase the time interval to a figure longer than the time SPM is taking
to refresh all resources on that device.
To change the resync interval:
1. Open the SPM configuration file, which is stored at the following location:
<SPM Install Location>/state/ApplicationConfig.xml
2. Change the value stored in the ResourceOutOfDateTimespan element.
The value is in minutes.
3. Save the updated SPM configuration file.
Quarantining resources
Quarantine is a state flag on each resource that when set is referred to as quarantining the resource.
When a resource is quarantined, SPM does not use the resource to construct new services nor
does SPM perform any automated configuration on the resource. SPM leaves it in its current state.
Existing resourced services using quarantined resources therefore cannot be reconfigured
(reactivated), but otherwise are unaffected by the quarantine state.
The quarantine state may be set or unset manually by the administrator and may also be set by
SPM. SPM never clears the quarantine state; the administrator must clear the state when it is safe
for SPM to begin using the resource again.
A Change Quarantine option is available on the actions menu for arrays, volumes, storage pools,
and networks.
Resources are placed in quarantine by:
The recovery process—As part of SPM recovery, after an SPM catalog is restored from backup
and SPM is started in Internal Recovery mode, all resources are resynchronized from the
device. If SPM detects a configuration change between the recovered catalog and the device
then the resource is put into quarantine. This usually means something happened to the resource
or catalog after the SPM catalog backup occurred that was lost on restore, and the administrator
may need to update the SPM catalog manually before the resource is safe to be brought out
of quarantine. For more information on performing this process, see the Backing up and
restoring HP Insight Management Central Management Server (Windows) white paper at
http://www.hp.com/go/matrixoe/docs.
Service deactivation—If a Service Deactivation Policy of “Quarantine Resource” is used, SPM
removes the volume's presentations and places the volume in quarantine when the service is
deactivated. This is useful if the administrator does not want volume data to be lost or
