HP Storage Provisioning Manager (SPM) version 2.3 User Guide

B Working with Brocade Fibre Channel networks
Minimum requirements
Brocade Network Advisor or HP B-Series Network Advisor must be installed in order to manage
Brocade based SAN environments. For the supported Brocade Network Advisor software packages,
see “Minimum requirements” (page 12).
NOTE:
Brocade's legacy standalone SMI Agent is not supported by SPM. SPM will only support the
SMI Agent installed via HP B-Series Network Advisor/Brocade Network Advisor installation
packages as called out above.
For more information and access to HP B-Series Network Adviser software, see HP B-series
Management Software - Overview & Features. Download information can be found under
“HP Support and Drivers.
BNA Historical Data Collection performance issues with automated zoning
When using the SPM automated zoning capability with HP B-series/Brocade Network Advisor
version 12.0.2, you must disable Historical Data Collection to ensure BNA provides adequate
performance for SPM. To disable Historical Data Collection from the Brocade Network Advisor
GUI, select MonitorPerformanceHistorical Data CollectionDisable All .
Configuring SPM to communicate with SANs
When managing Brocade-based SAN environments, SPM must have access to Brocade's network
device manager, which is outlined in the Minimum Requirements section.
IMPORTANT: SNMP registration must be configure properly on all switches BNA is managing
for SPM to recognize endpoints on such switches. Endpoints connected to switches with faulty BNA
SNMP registration will not be recognized by SPM.
Make sure the following requirements have been met.
1. Check that BNA SMI Agent is installed on a server.
2. Check that a BNA administrator account with full access is configured and available for use
by SPM when communicating with BNA.
3. Check that the CIMOM is up and running on the server.
4. Check that SSL is enabled in BNA.
5. Check that the CIMOM is bound to the NIC that is on the same subnet that SPM is on so that
SPM can connect and communicate with Brocade's network device management software.
Importing a network
To import a network, see Importing a network.
Managing networks
For additional information on managing networks, see Managing networks.
For additional information on removing a network, see Removing a network.
Network limitations for configurations involving multiple instances of BNA and/or
SPM
When using the SPM automated zoning capability with HP B-series/Brocade Network Advisor
version 11.1.3 or 11.1.4 in environments that make use of multiple CMS configurations either
independent or in a federated configuration), any given instance of BNA can be accessed by at
most one instance of SPM. Alternatively, it is acceptable for multiple SPM instances to share a BNA
