Figure 12: Required to use a thick volume
Specified target ports cannot be used for presentation
This error would be seen in the SPM GUI and/or in the SPM logs.
Possible Cause:
The requested director port(s) might not have been configured for use by SPM when performing LUN presentations.
Suggested Actions:
Contact the EMC administrator and configure the allowed director port(s) in the
EmcSymmetrixVMaxAdapter.exe.config file located in the C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Storage
Provisioning Manager\plugins\storage_adapters\EMCSymmVMAX folder. The ACLX flag should
have been enabled for each of these ports.
Recheck if these ports need VSA setting enabled or disabled to meet the environment needs. Please refer to the
Configuration section for more details.
The operation will result in consistent LUN violation
This error would be seen in the SPM GUI and/or in the SPM logs.
Possible Cause:
The LUN number value may have crossed the maximum limit on the port:
If VSA is enabled on the port, the maximum number of LUNs that can be assigned to a host initiator based on EMC
limits is 2000; Matrix limits the LUN number to the range 1-255.
Note
In 7.2.x, an HP-UX host needing the last digit on the EMC to be in the range 0 through 7, is effectively limited to 127
LUN numbers.
If VSA is not enabled on the port, the maximum number of LUNs that can be assigned to a host based on EMC limits
is 4000; Matrix limits LUN number to the range 1-255.
Suggested Actions:
Ensure that the LUN number being assigned while presenting a volume is within the limit (depends on whether VSA is
enabled or not) on the port being used.
If VSA flag is enabled on the port, the decimal value assigned for the LUN number should be in the range 0 2000
for EMC (and the range 1 through 255 for Matrix).
Note
If using Matrix 7.2.x and HP-UX, make sure that the hexadecimal value of the assigned LUN number has its last digit in
the range 0-7. Matrix limits the LUN number to the range 1-255
If VSA flag is disabled on the port, the decimal value assigned for the LUN number should be in the range 0 4000
for EMC (and the range 1 through 255 for Matrix).
